Childhood Behavioral Issues: What Can You Do?
Childhood behavioral issues are not uncommon. In fact, acting out is often a part of growing up for many children. While this may be common, these behaviors are not meant to impact how your child functions or interacts with others. There can be many indicators that it is time to consider counseling. If you are concerned about your child’s behaviors it may be wise to consult with a professional.
How Common are Behavioral Health Conditions in Children?
Most young children have the tendency to be occasionally mischievous, rebellious or even reckless. It can be perfectly “normal” for young people to be naughty, stubborn and boisterous from time to time. However, when this behavior is persistent, intense or damaging to themselves or others, it may be time to intervene.
Harvard Medical School reports that “about 1 in 5 children and adolescents in any given year meet the criteria for a mental, emotional, or behavioral health disorder, a figure that has been trending upwards”. Behavioral health conditions are not uncommon in children, if you are concerned it’s okay to ask for help.
