Panic attacks can be overwhelmingly intense and can impact the way you live  your life. Due to the severe nature of a panic attack, many who experience them frequently will avoid doing things or going places for fear they may experience an attack. While this is understandable, it can be incredibly damaging. Despite the intensity of panic, it is treatable.

Characteristics of a Panic Attack

These intense episodes of panic or fear can be triggered by obvious causes or can seem to occur without any warning. Panic attacks generally last from from 10 to 30 minutes. Within that short time, you can experience severe terror and feel completely incapacitated. The physical symptoms can be so frightening they are often thought to be a heart attack. The fear remains after an attack is over, but you may find that you worry about experiencing another when escape or help is not readily available. This can lead you to avoiding many things that you used to enjoy for fear of having another attack.
