Do You Need a Referral for Counseling with Tricare?
A UCLA neuroimaging study reveals the benefits of verbalizing your thoughts and feelings into words. According to researchers, being able to talk about your feelings can help reduce the intensity of negative emotions, such as anger, sadness and pain. This is why we often feel better when we talk about how we feel with someone we can trust. This can be even more helpful when you address your concerns with a licensed therapist who can effectively help you find resolution. The very act of voicing your concerns to someone who cares can be very healing.
Counseling: How Can It Help?
Contrary to the misconceptions and inaccurate images of what counseling is, there are a variety of ways counseling can be beneficial to you. Therapy can provide a non-bias space where you can openly share how you are feeling. You can address your concerns with a licensed therapist who can help you to find ways to move forward and teach you valuable skills. A licensed therapist can assess what is going on for you and develop a treatment plan to help you to get to where you want to be.
Don’t ignore your symptoms or allow worry to dictate your life. More than relieving symptoms, counseling can equip you with the tools you need to overcome challenges and resolve conflict.
Removing Barriers
When considering counseling, many people are deterred by the costs involved. With some insurance plans, it can be difficult to get started knowing that a doctor’s referral is required to even begin the process.
If you have a TRICARE plan, you don’t need a doctor’s referral for counseling unless you are an Active Duty Service Member. At this time Active Duty does require a referral from your PCM.
