The Comfort that Reminds You of Home

The thought of home never fails to evoke good feelings. This is why we want you to think that coming to Carolina Counseling Services — Cameron, NC, is like coming home. We make the office a soothing place where you can relax while waiting for your therapist. The soft background music, the warm ambiance, and the peacefulness are all meant to boost your confidence and ease your nerves.

Before the Session: Do the Preliminaries

Come early. Coming late for your appointment may give you some jitters. With the extra time, you can relax before your session in the waiting room and do the preliminary paperwork. A clipboard can be found in the waiting room. Take the time to fill out the form properly and honestly. The information is important for your therapist/counselor to better understand and help you.

Check if you have brought what the appointment scheduler advised that you bring on your first visit—ID, insurance card, and/or cash/credit card. It is customary for clients to be informed about what to bring to the first session. Make sure you bring these when you come. You can pay in cash (or credit card with some therapists) if you are not using your insurance. You may also need one of those if there are deductibles and co-pays to pay.

If you have relevant concerns about your insurance or paying in cash, ask the appointment setter when you call the first time. Your other questions can be answered by your therapist when you meet.

Meet Your Therapist

Your therapist will meet you in the waiting room at your appointed time. You will then accompany them to their office.  In the office, you can give the counselor the completed form, your ID, and the insurance card or the cash, whichever you will use, to cover the professional fee, deductibles, and/or copays. A copy of your id/card will be made at that time. The payment will be acknowledged with a receipt.

The first session is usually dedicated to talking about your medical and family history, your symptoms, and other concerns you need to share with your therapist. This will also be the time when your therapist assesses your symptoms and you both discuss the plan for your treatment or resolution of issues.

Achieving the Goals of the First Session

The dialogue will provide an opportunity for both you and your therapist to get to evaluate if you are a good fit. If you are not comfortable with your therapist, you can get a referral to another therapist. Finding the right-fit therapist is important, because you must trust your therapist for therapy to succeed.

Trust is important, which is why we want you to be honest with us. Trust is important for you to take your therapist’s words as wisdom and adhere to the agreed upon treatment plan. This is why we want to make sure you have a hand in picking and working with the therapist of your choice.

Actively participating in your treatment is also vital. Therefore, we want you to ask questions, so you can clarify and participate in the discussion. It is always an advantage when you are an active participant in your own treatment or in sorting out and resolving your emotional concerns.

Many factors can interact with the dynamics of your emotional condition or issues. While it is never easy to sort out these kinds of concerns, with the help of a therapist there is hope. If hope brought you here to Carolina Counseling Services — Cameron, NC, on Hwy 87, near Linden Oaks, trust that hope to grow even stronger in time and as your feelings improve.

With this overview of what to expect during your first session, you need not worry about taking this step toward a better life. With Carolina Counseling Services — Cameron, you do not have to go through challenges alone or feel hopeless.
